The Foam Cell element used in the Ironman Foam Cell PRO Shocks is to replace the Nitrogen Gas Charge used in other shock absorber models.
This Closed Cell Element is responsible for absorption and reaction required to reduce the tendency of the shock absorber fluid from over-heating and causing aeration and cavatation by the high speed piston movements.
The advantage of using the Foam element is the considerably less space occupied by it, than gas.
This allows the shock absorber to be "top filled" completely with oil and benefit from maximised heat dissipation to the outer casing allowing the shock to run cooler in harsher conditions.
Remember that it is your shock absorbers that keep your tyres in contact with the road and maintain stability of your vehicle, especially under unforeseen situations that require a fast response to avoid objects or to provide the shortest possible braking distances to avoid crashing your 4x4 !
There are only two other components on your 4WD that are as important or more important than good, well performing shock absorbers – BRAKES and TYRES and you need to maintain those in excellent condition as well ! © 4WD Direct 2014
