In the more than 20 years that we have been selling 4WD Suspension products - we have sold many different brands of shock absorbers for all types of vehicles while working for different organisations.
Brands like: Old Man Emu, Ultimate, Rancho, Series 2000, XGS, Cofap, Pedders, EFS Enforcer, EFS Elite, Sachs, Boge, Monroe, Dobinson, Desert Fox, Raw 4X4, KYB, Tokico, Bilstein and Koni along with a number of others over that time and in our opinion, we can honestly say that the ‘LOVELLS GAS LEGEND SERIES II SHOCKS’ offer the best value for money of any shock absorbers within the mid-ranged price bracket, to suit 85-90% of all on and off-road driving conditions and requirements.
In our opinion, the only better shocks you could buy would be the 46mm bore Bilstein mono-tube gas, 84 or larger series Koni adjustable or Tough Dog’s 45mm bore adjustable shocks that WILL COST AROUND TWICE THE PRICE (but will still wear out their internal componentry, anyway).
The other thing to consider is the difference in Warranty Periods offered by most other brands – most still only offer a 2 Year/40,000k warranty period. Some only offer 1 Year/20,000k, some even offer an inflated 3 Year/100,000k warranty period as a marketing ploy – a very big ask, indeed, if they expect the performance and control of their shocks to be anything like when new.
We offer a genuine 3 YEAR / 70,00K Warranty on all Lovells Gas Legend Series II Shocks we sell !!!
SOME SHOCK ABSORBER FACTS:
From a safety point of view, 98% of all brands of shock absorbers should be replaced or overhauled at least every 80-100,000k under most normal driving conditions if you expect them to maintain a reasonable level of vehicle control.
In some cases they may need to be replaced even sooner if used in our harsh outback conditions, corrugated tracks or with heavy rate coils and heavy loads under 4WD vehicles.
Shock absorber fluid becomes thinner over time (just like your engine oil). The internal, moving parts also wear over time and eventually loose their correct tolerances. All of this means that most shocks will not be performing at anywhere near their optimum (as new performance or control) after around 75-80,000k.
This is the reason that shock absorbers should be replaced at regular intervals to maintain that safety edge for you and the passengers in your 4WD, (your family in most cases, we would think).
Remember that it is your shock absorbers that keep your tyres in contact with the road and maintain stability of your vehicle, especially under unforeseen situations that require a fast response to avoid objects or to provide the shortest possible braking distances to avoid crashing your 4x4 !
There are only two other components on your 4WD that are as important or more important than good, well performing shock absorbers – BRAKES and TYRES and you need to maintain those in excellent condition as well !
